Adel Saleh Al-Ghamdi CFA is a Saudi businessman and the former Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul),[1] former Chairman of the Arab Federation of Exchanges.[2] In 2015 Al-Ghamdi was named CEO of the Year Middle East and North Africa at the Global Investor/ISF MENA Awards 2015.[3]

Background

Al-Ghamdi began his career in the financial services industry holding various key positions at Riyad Bank Europe and Riyad Bank London. He also served on the board of the Tadawul Real Estate Company and is the chairman of the Arab Federation of Exchanges.[4] Al-Ghamdi is a member of the CFA Society of the UK with over 18 years of experience in the financial services industry.[5] He also holds the Investment Management Certificate from the UK Institute of Investment Management and Research (now called the CFA Society of the UK).

Al-Ghamdi served as a Divisional Director, Corporate Finance & Issuance at Capital Market Authority where he held a number of senior positions including Manager - Mutual Funds Continuous Disclosure Department, and Manager - Financial Instruments Department. He also served on the Management Committee. He was also Associate Director, Global Investment Banking Advisory at HSBC Saudi Arabia, where he came from Riyad Bank Europe.[6]

From April 2016 to April 2017, Al-Ghamdi was a Group CEO at Abdullatif Alissa Group Holding Co. Alissa Group is one of the largest investment conglomerates in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with significant core assets in the automotive (trading, distribution, and rental), finance leasing, and real estate (trading and development) sectors, in addition to a diverse set of investments in privately held and publicly listed companies.[7]

Tadawul

Al-Ghamdi served as the Chief Executive of the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul) from August 1, 2013[8] to November 11, 2015.[9] In his capacity as CEO of the largest and most liquid securities exchange in the Middle East and North Africa, Al-Ghamdi was responsible for over 300 professionals across 9 divisions operating out of Riyadh, and was charged with leading the transformation of the Exchange into a rich multi-product, multi-market, multi-client platform with international reach and presence.[10][11]

As at year-end 2015, the Exchange was ranked as the 21st largest stock market member in the WFE, with a market cap of USD421 billion, and annual market turnover of USD443 billion.[12][13]

Al-Ghamdi developed the Exchange’s first ever 5 year master plan (2015–20) designed to address capital market development needs, the Exchange’s commercial objectives, and, more critically, to fulfill the aspirations of the national agenda (now forming a part of the Kingdom's 2030 vision).[14]
