Gorg Blau is an artificial reservoir on the island of Majorca in the Balearic Islands, located in the valleys between Puig Major and Puig de Massanella. Since 1971 it has provided water to the city of Palma and the surrounding areas, along with its counterpart, the Cúber reservoir.[citation needed]
The Gorg Blau Torrent or Sa Fosca Torrent is located at the reservoir ends in the Pareis Torrent. It was declared a natural monument by the Balearic Islands Government in 2003.
The first Gorg Blau
Until 1971, the name Gorg Blau referred to the narrowest place of the Pareis Torrent, which is the place that crosses the Sóller street by a bridge. Next to the bridge, a tunnel was drilled. In the place named Cals Reis, in 1906, an electric central was a building that uses the water. Before the reservoir's creation, the place became well-known by the conjunction of the elevation of the torrent's walls, the blue of the waters & the bridge, which inspired artists such as poets, photographers or painters.
