Enlisted is a squad-based massively multiplayer online game (MMO) shooter game reconstructing World War II battles, developed by DarkFlow Studio and published by Gaijin Entertainment. It will be an Xbox Series X/S launch title and timed console exclusive.[1]
Gameplay
Enlisted is a squad-based online first-person shooter game with infantry, ground vehicles and aircraft fighting together on the same WWII-themed maps. Players control either a squad of 4-7 soldiers of various classes or a tank crew or an aircraft pilot. They can give orders to AI soldiers in the squad while controlling one of the soldiers directly.
The Battle for Moscow campaign will be available first, with Normandy Invasion and Battle for Berlin to follow.[2]
Development
Gaijin Entertainment and Darkflow Software first announced the game in 2016 as a crowdfunded title. Two campaigns focusing on the Battle of Moscow and the Battle of Normandy were announced and other campaigns would be unlocked if their respective funding goals were met. Funding tiers at the highest levels would allow contributors to choose the specific campaigns, if successfully met. The game was advertised as a "first person shooter decided by the fans, for the fans" and that "They will have direct input into what we create, including things like campaigns, game modes, even which platforms after PC we will support.”[3] The first public play test occurred in April 2020 on the PC and in November the beta testers will have access to "ray-traced global illumination and DLSS".[4][5]
Release
At E3 2018 Microsoft confirmed that the game would be released to the Xbox and would be part of the Xbox Game Preview for that year.[6][7] The first public play test occurred in April 2020 on the PC and in October of the same year, Microsoft announced that Enlisted would be part of the Xbox Series X/S launch lineup and a timed console exclusive.[8][1] Nvidia has also confirmed the game's PC release.[5]
