The Sitagu International Buddhist Academy (Burmese: သီတဂူကမ္ဘာ့ဗုဒ္ဓတက္ကသိုလ်) is a Buddhist missionary university, located in Sagaing, Myanmar. The academy was founded in 1994 by Sitagu Sayadaw Ashin Nyanissara. The academy teachs and trains Buddhist literature to monks, nuns and students.[1]

History

The Sitagu Association, Myanmar, headed by Ashin Nyanissara, began construction on Sitagu International Buddhist Academy in 1994.

Location

The university is situated just beneath the Sun U Ponnyashin Pagoda in the narrow plain separating the western-most spur of the Sagaing Hills and the Minwun ridge. There are 6 buildings with classrooms, offices, research centre, meditation centers, libraries and halls including Savatti Hall, Kappilavatthu Hall, Lumbini Hall, Nalanda Hall, the Adhipati's Residence, Gandhara Hall, Rajagaha Hall and Devadaha Hall.

The University offers the following Diploma and Degree Programs:

  • Diploma in Language Studies (English, Pali, Sanskrit, or Hindi)
  • Diploma in Buddhist Studies
  • B.A. in Buddhist Studies
  • M.A. in Buddhist Studies
  • Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies
