Chhewang Nima
Chhewang Nima (Template:Lang-ne) (c. 1967 – 23 October 2010) was a well known Nepalese Sherpa who had climbed Mount Everest 19 times at the time of his loss on Baruntse.[1] He was also called Chuwang Nima,[2] and Chuwang Nima Sherpa.[3] His loss in the avalanche and subsequent search made international news, and he was a well known mountaineer in the United States as well as Nepal.[4][5] He worked as a professional mountaineer, but at the time of his loss he was helping another team fix lines after they had asked for help.[6][7]
His disappearance, after being struck by an avalanche near the summit of Mount Baruntse, was reported on 24 October 2010.[1] On 25 October it was announced that the search had been called off.[8]
Summits:
- Everest
- Ama Dablam
- October 26, 2009 Chuwang Nima Sherpa (Tesho, Nepal)[11]
At the time of Chhewang's loss he had 19 Everest summits, one short of most in the World, Apa Sherpa's who had 20 ascents at the time of Chhewang's loss.[12] (Apa later increased this to 21)
