Altendorf (lit. old village) is a northwestern borough of the city of Essen, Germany. It was incorporated into the city on 1 August 1901. Before it had been part of the Bürgermeisterei Altendorf [de] (Altendorf district), which existed since 1874. Altendorf consisted of two parts, Oberdorf (upper village) and Unterdorf (lower village). [1] Around 22.000 people live here.

Geography

Altendorf borders the boroughs of Nordviertel and Westviertel [de] to the east, Frohnhausen [de] to the south, Schönebeck [de] in the west and Bochold in the north.
