Shane Keegan is an Irish football Manager.
In November 2016, Keegan was announced as Manager of Galway United on a two-year contract, joining from Wexford Youths, where he spent five seasons in charge. His departure from Wexford came in controversial circumstances as the news broke just before the away leg of a relegation play off to Drogheda which they subsequently lost after having been 2.0 up in the first leg.[1][2]
Keegan's first season in charge of Galway United resulted in the club being relegated from the League of Ireland Premier Division.[3] That same season he guided his side to the semi-final of the EA Sports Cup where they lost 3-0 to Dundalk.[4] His side also made it to the quarter-finals of the FAI Cup but were beaten 2-1 by Limerick.[5] His contract with Galway was not renewed at the end of the two year term following a disappointing season. Shane's playing career started at Clover Utd of the Kilkenny and District League. Shane was a small midfield player with an eye for the ball. His unique running style earned him the nickname "Chicken Legs". The Clover Utd Faithful, still sing songs about his legs. Injury ended his playing days early but Shane moved into coaching at under age level in Kilkennys development sides and began his UEFA Coaching badges.
Shane is Currently managing non League Portlaoise AFC and the Clare Oscar Traynor side. He is also opposition analyst at Dundalk where he arrived in 2020 when they were Premier Division champions.
