Michael Feliz (born June 28, 1993) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played in MLB for the Houston Astros.
Career
Houston Astros
Feliz signed with the Houston Astros as an international free agent in May 2010. In 2014, he played in the All-Star Futures Game.[1]
Feliz made his MLB debut with the Astros on May 31, 2015.[2] During spring training in 2016, Feliz beat out James Hoyt for the final spot on the Astros Opening Day roster.[3] After throwing 107 pitches in relief during the second game of the season, he was optioned back to the minors the next day.[4] On April 25, 2016, he was promoted back to the major leagues.[5]
In 2017, Feliz made 46 appearances finishing with a 4–2 record and a 5.63 ERA. The Astros finished 2017 with a 101–61 record, and eventually won the 2017 World Series, the first time they won the series. Feliz was negated from postseason action, but was still on the 40-man roster at the time, giving him his first championship.[6]
Pittsburgh Pirates
On January 13, 2018, the Astros traded Feliz, along with Joe Musgrove, Colin Moran and Jason Martin, to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Gerrit Cole.[7] He pitched exclusively out of the bullpen for the Pirates, appearing in 47 games. He registered an ERA of 5.66, striking out 55 in 47+2⁄3 innings.
