Jorien Wuite (Dutch pronunciation: [joːˈrin ˈʋœytə]; born 6 December 1964) is a Sint Maarten politician and member of the United Democrats.
Early life
Wuite was born in the Netherlands and grew up there. Her mother is writer and educator Anna Merab Richardson. She studied Public Health Management at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, followed by a postgraduate course in management consultancy and change management. She later earned a master's degree in public management and management sciences from Open University. During her studies she did research on Sint Maarten.[1][2]
Career
After her studies, Wuite worked in the Netherlands for five years for a consultancy firm. She responded to a vacancy for a Sector Director of Healthcare in Sint Maarten and was hired. Later she was secretary-general of the Ministries of Health, Social Development and Labor Affairs and of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Affairs.[2] On 15 January 2018, she was appointed Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Affairs in the First Marlin-Romeo cabinet.[1][3] From 25 June 2018 to 19 November 2019, she served as the Minister Plenipotentiary of Sint Maarten.
On 11 November 2020, it was announced that Wuite will stand as a candidate in the 2021 Dutch general election, as a member of Democrats 66 (D66).[4]
