ARAYA is a 2016 first person adventure/horror game, developed by MAD Virtual Reality Studio for Microsoft Windows.[1]

Plot

The story is told from the perspective of 3 different characters: Marisa, Rama, and Boon. Players explore different areas of a hospital in Bangkok, in order to piece together the mysterious circumstances and solve the murder case of Araya.[2]

Araya is bipolar and claims misanthropy, and prefers staying home. However, when Araya befriended a girl named Marisa, she now felt at ease being around her. Later on, Araya gets hit--on by a boy named Sorn, but Marisa warns her to stay away from him, claiming that he's nothing but a playboy. Araya agrees at first, but starts a relationship with Sorn anyway, resulting in a unwanted pregnancy and causing arguments. For an unknown reason, Sorn procures a "sleeping" pill and gives it to Araya. It ends up killing her and Sorn panics, not wanting to be blamed for her death. He takes Araya's body to the hospital's parking garage, where he hangs her by a noose and later dies by accident.

Marisa gets a text message from Araya a year after her death, and goes to the now decrepit hospital. While she's searching it, she is chased by a man named Jit, who previously worked there and now stays for an unknown reason. She's later caught by Jit, who thankfully doesn't kill her while unconscious.

Rama, the security guard and patroller for said hospital, is also chased by Jit, who he previously knew. Rama's boss later tells him to meet up at a location within the hospital, but is supposedly stabbed in the back by Jit instead. Jit chases Rama again, but this time gets knocked out by a collapsing bookshelf.

The last character, named Boon, is sent into the hospital to complete a task for a gang, clearing a gambling debt. He is chased several times by a gigantic "Praet," a type of spirit believed to be children that have sinned against their parents after death. During the end of Boon's mission, he and Rama cross paths, and both quickly discuss how to escape the hospital.

Soon Marisa finds the corpse of Araya and faints. She wakes up soon realizing she's inside a nightmarish labyrinth. Towards the end of the maze she hears both Sorn and Araya's previous argument, finding a ghostly version of Araya hanging in the spot where Sorn had left her. Araya suddenly transforms into a vengeful ghost, believing that there is no one left who truly cares about her.

Previously, Rama finds the room where an unconscious Marisa and Araya's corpse are. If Rama looks at Araya's corpse, he can examine the nail in her forehead. After trying to awake Marisa, Jit enters the room and attacks him. Rama pushes him away, and is then given the option to either kill or spare Jit. But Rama's boss barges into the room and knocks him out, blaming Rama for ruining their unknown plan. The boss, in turn, is pushed by Araya's ghost and hits his head against a table, presumably dead.

Meanwhile, Marisa is trapped with Araya's vengeful spirit and tries to escape from her. When she's near the exit, the spirit appears and blocks her path.

There are two endings that can happen depending on whether or not Jit was spared: if spared, Jit will come and attack the spirit by stabbing her in the forehead with his sacred dagger. If killed, it is Rama who attacks Araya instead. (Either way, all three main characters escape the now burning hospital.)

Marisa wakes up surrounded by police outside. Rama stares at the hospital. Boon is trying to explain to a policeman what happened. If Jit is spared, he is seen sitting on the ground outside holding his head in his hands. Marisa looks up at the hospital sadly, and the game ends with someone reaching for her hand.
