AMSilk is the world’s first industrial supplier of synthetic silk biopolymers. The organic high-performance material can be used in multiple ways, including medical or technical products as well as cosmetic ingredients.[1] AMSilk biopolymers give everyday products unique properties. Among other things, the polymers are biocompatible, breathable and especially robust.[2] The company was founded in 2008 and has its headquarters at the IZB in Planegg near Munich.
AMSilk biopolymers are distributed as cosmetic ingredients in form of Silkbeads (microparticles) and Silkgel (hydrogel). Additionally, they are used as coatings for medical devices, in textile industry and as ingredient in personal care products.[3]
AMSilk is an industrial biotechnology company with a proprietary production process for their silk materials. The produced silk proteins retain the basic silk properties found in natural spider silk proteins. In addition to being extremely tough, highly ductile and breathable, they are hypoallergenic and biocompatible. AMSilk is able to construct a range of interstage high-performance materials to be used to improve already existing products or to develop materials for completely new applications.[4]
