Abhidhamma Day (Burmese: အဘိဓမ္မာနေ့) is a Theravada Buddhist tradition celebrated primarily in Burmese.[1] Abhidhamma Day celebrates Gautama Buddha's ascension into tushita heaven to teach his mother the Abhidhamma.[2][3] It is celebrated on the full moon of the seventh month[1] of the Burmese lunar year which starts in April.[3] The seventh month corresponds to October.[4] The 2016 date for this event is October 16.[5]
