"Adventures in Modern Recording" is a single from the British synthpop group The Buggles, released in January 1982 on Carrere Records. It is also the opening track on the album of the same name.

Composition and critical response

"Adventures in Modern Recording" is a post-punk reggae-influenced synthpop song[1] played at a BPM of 136.[2] Yes bassist Chris Squire provided "sound effects" for the song.[3] The Quietus's Joe Stannard in his review of the album of the same name that the song "loads synthetic and acoustic instrumentation upon a skullcracking rhythm, creating a mood which is simultaneously dreamlike and hyper-alert. The song's all-too-brief reprise at the end of the original album is still more impressive, a vast, crashing wave of melodic noise crying out for a Lindstrom-style expansion."[4]

Allmusic, in a review of the album, applauded to the song's "lush arrangement and engrossing melody," which "show off Horn's remarkable production savvy."[5] The Bolton News said that the song and "Beatnik" were "strong openers" for the album.[6]
