Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy is a pharmacy college in India.[1][2] It is located in Bangalore in the state of Karnataka, one of several colleges offering pharmacy programs,[3] and is approved by Pharmacy Council of India.[4][5]
The college is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore,[6] and is headed by its principal, Prof. B.G.Shivananda,[7] one of the members of the Academic Council of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.[8] Dr.Mumtaz Ahmed Khan is the founder of Al-Ameen Educational Society, Bangalore and Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy is the one and only Pharmacy college started and running by the Al-Ameen Educational Society.[9]
History
Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy Established under the aegis of the Al-Ameen Educational Society in 1983.[10] Al-Ameen Educational Society is one of the biggest minority education society in India established in the year 1966.[11] Dr.Mumtaz Ahmed Khan is the founder of the Society.[12][13] It was started to meet the needs of education in the city and of minority Muslim community.[14]
The college campus is located at Hosur Road, opposite Lalbagh Main Gate, Bangalore having two parts covering an area of nearly 6.35 acres. In the first part, there are six colleges: Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy, Al-Ameen Arts, Science and Commerce Degree College, Al-Ameen Institute of Management Studies, Al-Ameen Institute of Information Sciences, Al-Ameen College of Law and Al-Ameen College of Education. The second part has a primary and higher Secondary school plus a Pre-University College.
The total enrollment of both campuses is more than 5,000 students.[15] The Pharmacy Council of India decided to introduce a six-year duration program starting in 2007. Their Education Regulation Committee has been entrusted with the role of preparing its curriculum and the program guidelines. It was headed by Principal Sivanand, Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy, Bangalore.[16] Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy is associated with the Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India,[17][18] Pharmacognosy Network Worldwide,[19][20][21][22] and the Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Education and Research.[23][24]

Academic
Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy offering several programs of study in the field of pharmacy. They are, Pharm - D 6 years program,[25] Pharm - D 3 years program, Doctor in Philosophy (Ph.d), Master in Pharmacy (M.Pharma),[26][27] Bachelor in Pharmacy (B.Pharma) and Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharma).[28][29]
Achievements
The Karnataka branch of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association organised the 49th National Pharmacy Week. The program's theme, "Safety first with medicines: Ask your pharmacist" was held 21 November 2010 at the Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy, Bangalore. The event was inaugurated by C. Gopalakrishna Murthy, president of Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Mumbai.[30] Sanjai Pai and Mueen Ahmed from Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy, Bangalore, has delivered lectures in the technical sessions of national workshop on challenging techniques in phytochemical, analytical and pharmacological evaluation of herbal medicine. The program was organised by The Luqman College of Pharmacy and started on 7 January 2008.[31]
