Al-Maktoum Institute is a charity registered in Scotland No. SC031415, located within Dundee. Its Patron and Sponsor is HH Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance of the United Arab Emirates. Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education, formerly known as Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies, was established in 2001.[1]

Professor Abd al-Fattah El-Awaisi was the Founding Principal and Vice-Chancellor (2000-2007)

Murray Elder (titled Baron Elder) was Chancellor of the college at a time circa 2011.[2]

It offers postgraduate programmes in the study of Islam and Muslims.[3]

The Al-Maktoum College Community created an Awards Fund to support community organisations in Dundee and the surrounding areas.[3]

The college has been reviewed by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education a number of times.[4]

The Institute has its own publishing press.[5]
