Alec Puro, otherwise known as Alec Püre, (born April 25, 1975) is an American drummer, songwriter and composer.

Career

Puro is best known for scoring the hit ABC Family/Freeform drama The Fosters,[1][2][3] MTV’s vigilante dark comedy series Sweet/Vicious[4][5] as well as several films including The Art Of Getting By[6][7] starring Emma Roberts and Freddie Highmore and Higher Ground starring Academy Award Nominee Vera Farmiga. A veteran of the indie film world, he recently composed the music for the upcoming comedy All Nighter,[8][9][10][11] starring Emile Hirsch and Academy Award Winner J.K. Simmons, and A Happening of Monumental Proportions,[1][2][8] actress Judy Greer’s directorial debut starring Katie Holmes, Allison Janney and Rob Riggle.[12]

In 1996 Puro formed the rock band Deadsy[13][8] with longtime friend Elijah Blue.[14] After their first album was released the band embarked upon several world tours opening for bands such as Linkin Park[2] and Stone Temple Pilots,[15] playing to packed audiences at historic venues like Madison Square Garden.[16] During his time with Deadsy, Puro also began composing music for various films and television shows.[7] Since 2007, Puro’s film work has been a regular fixture at some of the worlds most integral film festivals, from SXSW to Cannes to the Tribeca Film Festival.[17][18]

Puro founded Gramoscope Music in 2006.[19] Some projects they have created music for include the new theme for Real Time With Bill Maher, American Horror Story, Botched, So You Think You Can Dance, Running Wild With Bear Grylls, Wicked Tuna, The Americans, Glee, What to Expect When You’re Expecting and Burn Notice.[20]

Personal life

Puro is married to actress Marla Sokoloff.[21] Puro and Sokoloff have two daughters: Elliotte Anne (born February 2012) and Olive Mae (born March 2015).[22]
