Anitha Pauldurai (born 22 June 1985, Chennai, Tamil Nadu) is an Indian basketball player who has been the captain of the Indian Women's National basketball team.

Anitha is the first Indian woman who played eight Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) championships continuously representing the national squad. She is one of the first ever Indian basketball players to be ranked in Top Four A (Grade: Elite) along with Prashanti Singh.

In August, 2012, she was selected to play for international professional league in Thailand. Anitha has played a number of international tournaments including big ticket events such as the Asian championship, Commonwealth Games 2006 and Asian Games 2010. Anitha won Gold Medal in 1st 3 on 3 FIBA Asian Basketball championship at Doha 2013, Gold Medal in 3rd Asian beach games at Haiyan china 2012, Captain and Top Assists in the tournament, Gold Medal in south Asian beach games at Sri Lanka 2011 and Silver Medal in Asian indoor games at Vietnam 2009.[1][2]

Anitha Pauldurai won Gold Medal for 10 years and Bronze Medal for 2 years in prestigious senior National championship and won 11 medals in prestigious National games, Federation cup, Junior and Youth national.

Personal life

Anitha Pauldurai, a resident of Chennai, started playing basketball at the age of 11, but admits that early on, she wasn’t a fan of the sport. ”I used to like volleyball and athletics more ,”she said ,”But when I was in school, the basketball coach recommended that I try the game. The more I played ,the more interested I became in the sport.” She was graduate in B.Com from Madras University & MBA (HRM) from Annamalai University. She joined Southern Railway 2003, now working as Chief Ticket Inspector.

  • Anitha have been continuously represented for Indian team of women’s basketball for the past 16 years without break and She is the first Indian woman basketball player to play eight senior FIBA Asian basketball confederation (ABC) championship.
  • One of the top ten player of the tournament in FIBA Asian women 2013.
  • One of the first ever ranked in top four A grade elite basketball player of India.
  • Won gold medal in 1st 3 on 3 FIBA Asian basketball championship held at Doha, Qatar in May, 2013.
  • In August 2012, She is the only player from Tamil Nadu who has been selected to play for international professional league in Thailand.
  • Won gold medal and top assists in the tournament of 33rd Asian beach games held at Haiyan, China in 2012 and captained the team.
  • Won gold medal 3 on 3 south Asian games at Hambutata, Sri Lanka 2012.
  • In 2009 won silver medal in Asian indoor games at Vietnam.
  • Played seven senior FIBA Asian basketball confederation (ABC) championship during the years 2001 at Bangkok/Thailand, 2004 at Japan, 2005 at China(captain), 2007 at South Korea, 2009 at Chennai/India, 2011 at Nagasaki/Japan, 2013 at Bangkok/Thailand, 2015 at China(captain).
  • Top steals in the tournament of 24th FIBA Asian confederation championship held at Nagasaki/Japan 2011 during August.
  • Top assists in commonwealth games at Melbourne, Australia 2006.
  • Won gold medals for 10 years in senior national women’s basketball championship from 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 (captain), 2010, 2011,2012 and 2013 (3 on 3).
  • Under her captaincy Tamil Nadu women’s basketball team had won the gold medal in the prestigious 26th IMG reliance federation cup for men & women held at Bengaluru 2012. This is the first time Tamil Nadu team won this championship and Anitha received the most valuable player award of the tournament.
  • Won the most valuable player award in the prestigious all star professional basketball league in Mumbai 2012.
  • Top scorer award in prestigious IMG Reliance senior nationals held at Ludhiana 2009 and captain of the team.
  • Under her captaincy, Tamil Nadu women's basketball team had won the gold medal in the 34th national games held at Jharkhand 2011 and silver medal in the 35th national games held at Kerala 2015.
  • Most valuable player award in prestigious all India tournaments held at Mumbai, Savio cup, Ramu memorial trophy, Delhi, Punjab,Coimbatore, Karur, Chennai.
  • Under her captaincy, Tamil Nadu women's basketball team had won the gold medal in south-zone basketball championship held at Visakhapatnam 2010 and Hospet 2008.
  • won gold medal and best player award for youth nationals held at Varnasi, Mumbai and captained Tamil Nadu team.
