Antoon Verschoot

Antoon Verschoot, MBE, Order of the Crown (Belgium) (Ypres, 19 June 1925) is a firefighter Corporal and a bugler.

Background

On the 12th of December 2015, Antoon Verschoot played his last Last Post at the Menin Gate,[1] after 65 years Ypres with the Ypres/Ieper fire brigade, which he joined in 1950. He became a bugler for the Last Post Association[2] in 1954 making him the oldest and longest serving bugler with the Association. After a few presses on the calculator, we have estimated that he must have played at The Gate over 15,000 times![3][4]
