The Aphanizomenonaceae are a family of cyanobacteria containing mostly genera which produce aerotopes. Cyanobacteria from the Aphanizomenonaceae family usually form blooms in lentic freshwater bodies around the world, sometimes causing blooms, which may be dangerous for humans.
