North American telephone area code 274 is a proposed state of Wisconsin area code which will overlay with Area code 920 over much of eastern Wisconsin. Implementation was planned to begin in 2012, but conservation efforts and less need for numbers because of the economic crisis have caused the implementation date to be pushed back to 2017 or later.[1] Beginning then, all new telephone numbers will have the 274 area code, while old ones will keep their 920 area code, with ten-digit dialing to be instituted among all in the area code upon implementation.[2]
