Arnold Hunter (born 15 March 1980) is a Northern Irish professional football referee.[1] He has been a full international for FIFA since 2011.[2]

Hunter became a referee following a playing career, in which he took part as a goalkeeper.[3] On 7 July 2011, Hunter made his European debut in a match between FC Lusitanos and NK Varaždin in a UEFA Europa League first qualifying round match.[4] His first international match was between Armenia and Malta on 7 June 2013. The match ended in a 0–1 win for Malta.[5] Hunter's first Europa League group stage appointment was for the match between Villarreal and Apollon Limassol in October 2014.[3]

Controversies

According to the Northern Irish newspaper Belfast Telegraph, Hunter made multiple heavily criticized referee decisions during a football game on 25 February 2016.[6] Belgian news companies L'Avenir and Sudinfo concurred with the Irish newspaper's negative assessment of Hunter's decisions during that game.[7]
