Aromal Chekavar (or Chekavan) was a legendary warrior of the 16th century who is believed to have lived in the North Malabar region of what is now the state of Kerala in India. Born in the Puthooram Veedu tharavad of the Thiyya caste, he is mentioned in Vadakkan Pattukal (oral folklore, also called Northern Ballads). His sister was Unniyarcha, another legendary warrior figure of the same ballads.[1]
