Artist Growth is an app and cloud-based toolset that launched in 2012 for the independent music industry.[1] Artist Growth launched "2.0" in March 2013 as "a redesign that aims to make clients of major management companies.".[2] It uses proprietary technology[3] to provide musicians and their business teams with a central location for calendars, finances, gigs and inventory.[4] In addition, it offers a database of over 30,000 industry contacts and features push notification to-do lists and mentoring videos.[5] The company also inked a deal with BMI in 2012 to allow BMI members to submit set lists in order to collect compensation for performance royalties.[6]
Artist Growth was founded by musicians-turned-entrepreneurs Matt Urmy and Jonathan Sexton and is available as an app on both Android and iPhone.[7]
As of March 2013, Artist Growth has raised a total of $2 million in seed and Series A financing.[8] Among the first round of investors is Former Sony Records Chairman Joe Galante, Moontoast founder Joe Glaser, and founder of Echomusic, Mark Montgomery.[9] Artist Growth launched January 17, 2012, at an event attended by Nashville Mayor Karl Dean and country music legend Cowboy Jack Clement.[4] Nashville Mayor Karl Dean had endorsed Artist Growth as part of the rising crowd of Nashville startups that were creating "a vibrant, creative city." [4]
Artist Growth founders have demonstrated the app at 2012's South By Southwest Conference in Austin, Texas;[10] the Winter 2012 NAMM Show in Anahaim, Calif.; MIDEM in Cannes, France; and the Folk Alliance Convention in Memphis, Tenn.[11]
Awards
Artist Growth won the title of Best Music App by MTV's O Music Awards[12] and was named Gizmodo's App of the Day in 2012.[5]
