Aslam Farrukhi, PP, (Template:Lang-ur) (born October 23, 1923)[1] is an Urdu author, critic, poet, linguist, scholar and broadcaster from Pakistan. He is also known for children's writings. He remained associated as Professor and Chairman with the Department of Urdu, University of Karachi, for many years.[citation needed]

Biography

Farrukhi was born on 23 October 1923 into a literary family of Lucknow, India. Most of his family members were poets and writers. After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, he with his family migrated to Karachi, Pakistan.[citation needed]

Career

Farrukhi has taught at Sindh Muslim College and at Karachi University, where he also served as registrar.[2] His son is also scholar Dr. Asif Farrukhi.[3] He was associated as Professor and Chairman with the Department of Urdu, University of Karachi, for many years, and also with Radio Pakistan for more than six years.[citation needed] He is among the country's few writers of children's literature.[citation needed] He has contributed to several literary magazines as an editor.[citation needed]
