Balita Ngayon (literally meaning News Now) was the former flagship national news broadcast of ABS-CBN in the Philippines. It aired on ABS Channel 3 (later 2) from 1967 to 1972 and from 1986 to 1987 after the resumption of operations as a single network for post-EDSA Revolution. It became the first newscast to use Filipino, predating GMA Balita and TV Patrol.

It is also the title of ABS-CBN's Mega Manila AM radio station DZMM's hourly newscasts.

Airing history

Balita Ngayon debuted on November 20, 1967, and aired daily from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. However, the newscast ceased airing due to the closure of ABS-CBN after the declaration of martial law on September 23, 1972.

On September 15, 1986, Balita Ngayon returned with Mel Tiangco, Frankie Evangelista and Robert Arevalo at the helm in one hour from 6 to 7 p.m. and from 6:30 to 7 p.m. from January to February 1987. During this time, it was a Catholic Mass Media awardee.[1] However, due to low ratings brought about by its competition with GMA Balita, Balita Ngayon ended on February 27, 1987 to give way for TV Patrol.

Balita Ngayon is also the name of the hourly newscast of DZMM. It presents national and global headlines when no major newscasts are shown. It also has the elements of a flash report, occasionally presented when breaking news is in progress, in which it is called DZMM Radyo Patrol Flash Report.
