Plot

Saroja (Savitri) and Girija (Girija) are teacher Jayalakshmamma’s (Hemalatha) daughters. Jayalakshmamma keeps Venkatramayya (Relangi) as a music teacher to her daughters. Venkatramayya is fond of buying lottery tickets and his wife is Rathamma (Suryakala). Jayalakshmamma passes away after Saroja and Girija finish their schooling. Saroja gets a job in the house of a rich man Venkatadri (Dr. Sivaramakrishnaiah), at Ramavaram and she joins Girija in college. Venkatadri’s second wife is Mangamma (Chaya Devi) a shrewd lady. Venkatadri's first wife's son is Dr. Anand (N. T. Rama Rao). Anand is studying in the city along with Mangamma's daughter Rekha (T. Ammaji). In the college, Girija falls into the trap of a cheater called Mr. Rao (Jaggayya) and neglects her studies. Dr. Anand completes his studies, comes back to his village and decides to serve the poor people by keeping a hospital. Saroja and Anand start loving each other. Meanwhile, Ratnamma and Venkataramayya start a clothes business along with an assistant Neelayya (Balakrishna). Venkataramayya wastes all the money on lottery tickets. At last, he settles at his friend Subramanyam (C.S.R.) a Zamindar's house, who is brother-in-law to Venkatadri.

Saroja suspects Girija and she goes to the city where she sees Girija with Rao. Saroja slaps Girija. Girija insults Saroja in front of Rao and asks her to go away. Depressed, Saroja reaches the village and Mangamma throws her out of the house, knowing of her love affair with Anand. Anand also decides to leave the house, but before he reaches Saroja, Girija comes back and tells her sister that she has been cheated by Rao and she is pregnant. Now Saroja decides to settle her sister's issue and leaves for the city. Anand could not find the whereabouts of Saroja. In the city, Girija gives birth to a baby boy. Anand finally finds the address of Saroja, where he suspects Saroja's fidelity after seeing Girija's baby with her and leaves that place. Meanwhile, Venkatramayya wins the lottery and becomes rich. One day he meets Saroja and Girija. Saroja requests him to solve this problem. By seeing Rao's photo, he recognizes him as the foster son of his friend Subramanyam. Then Venkataramayya makes a plan and asks Girija to stay in Subramanyam’s house along with the baby and she does so. Venkatramayya acts as a millionaire and Saroja as his daughter and trap Rao. Anand, out of desperation gets habituated to drinks, but after some time he changes and starts a hospital. Knowing that Rao's marriage is fixed with Anand's sister Rekha, Saroja tries to separate them. Rekha recognizes Saroja and tells Subramanyam about this. Subramanyam blames Saroja, brings back Rao and makes the marriage arrangements of Rao and Rekha. After seeing Rao, Girija requests him not to spoil her life. Hearing this, Subramanyam blames Girija and locks her in a house. Saroja and Venkataramayya start to Ramavaram. On the way, they meet with an accident and they are admitted to Anand's hospital. Through Venkataramayya Anand comes to know the truth, he requests a pardon of Saroja. The marriage is completed by the time they reach the venue. But to everyone's surprise, Subramanyam plays a drama, keeps Girija as the bride and makes Rao realize his mistake. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Anand and Saroja.
