Blue Almanac (ブルーアルマナック, Burū Arumanakku) is a futuristic role-playing video game for the Sega Mega Drive.

It was released only for Japan in June 22, 1991 and had a US release as Star Odyssey planned and advertised but it was cancelled at the time. North American publisher Super Fighter Team acquired the official rights to publish an English version of the game with alterations to the translation and the programming, based on an as-for-yet unreleased prototype of the US version, and released it exactly twenty years after the game's original release as Star Odyssey.

Summary

This is a futuristic city as seen in the game. Notice the highly advanced architecture and the lack of paved roads for automobiles.

In the distant future, mankind has long left the Earth and spread all over the Milky Way. Humans settled down on different planets, sometimes coming into contact with other races, and established a connection between them. The player is Miyabi, young man who was a mere child when he survived a spaceship crash and had to seek shelter on a new planet. Now he is sixteen, and his parents plan to send him to attend schooling on the planet Terra. That is when his adventure begins.

Blue Almanac is a sci-fi Japanese-style RPG. The player's party encounters random enemies and fights them in turn-based combat. The combat is viewed from a side-scrolling perspective and both the player's and enemies' attacks are animated.[1]

The game takes place over multiple planets and has an epic space story (similar to Phantasy Star II) that emphasizes substance over style with its minimalist graphics.[5]

Super Fighter Team

This game was officially released worldwide, in English, on June 22, 2011 under the name Star Odyssey. It was produced and published by North American company Super Fighter Team in cooperation with Starfish-SD Inc.[6]

On August 6, 2013, the game was released for Windows and Mac OS X, in the form of a compilation package of three Super Fighter Team RPGs, the other two being Beggar Prince and Legend of Wukong.[7]
