The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting is a British national competition for playwriting, the largest of its kind in Europe.[citation needed] The prize was instituted in 2006, and is limited to scripts that are original and unperformed.[1] The award is a joint venture between the property company Bruntwood and the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. Since its inception, more than 7000 scripts have been submitted.[when?] There have been 15 prizewinners, with combined prize money of £160,000, and eight winning productions have been staged till date.[when?]
