CBFG-FM is a mainly-French-language Canadian radio station located in Chisasibi, Quebec.
Owned and operated by the (government-owned) Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (French: Société Radio-Canada), it broadcasts on 103.5 MHz with an average effective radiated power of 85 watts (class A1).
The station has an ad-free news/talk format and is the flagship of the regional Ici Nord-Québec network, which carries programming from the Canada-wide Ici Radio-Canada Première network, plus some regional programming. Like all Première stations, but unlike most FM stations, it broadcasts in mono. The network serves ten First Nations communities in Nord-du-Québec and adjacent regions.
Programming
During most of its programming day, CBFG-FM largely rebroadcasts Radio-Canada flagship CBF-FM in Montreal, including morning program Gravel le matin, afternoon show Le 15-18, and Saturday morning program Samedi et rien d'autre. However, on weekdays, the station would cut away for local programming pertinent to the local community: Cree language programs Winshgaoug (8 a.m., pre-empting final hour of Gravel le matin), Eyou Dipajimoon (12 noon, pre-empting the first 60 minutes of Midi Info) and Ashûmîyi (5 p.m., pre-empting final hour of Le 15-18), plus French-language program Soirée boréale at 6 p.m., pre-empting L'heure du monde.[1] The Cree-language programs are produced in association with the James Bay Cree Communications Society,[2] which own several radio stations of their own in the region, including flagship CINI-FM in Mistissini and CHFG-FM in Chisasibi, among others.
As of CBFG-FM's 2001 license renewal, the station was obligated by its license conditions to broadcast 80 hours of locally-produced programming per week in the Cree language.[2] However, the amount of Cree-language programming was reduced to 15 hours per week as of 2015;[1] it is unknown at present if the CBC petitioned the CRTC to allow reductions in Cree programming.
Transmitters
At least seven of these transmitters were previously repeaters of CBF-FM: CBFA-FM-1 Manawan, CBFA-FM-2 Obedjiwan, CBFW-FM Wemindji, CBFM-FM Mistissini, CBFA-3 (later re-called CBFG-FM-3) Wemotaci, CBFH-FM Waskaganish, and CBFV-FM Waswanipi; these repeaters changed their source of programming from CBF-FM to CBFG-FM following approval by the CRTC on October 30, 2012.[3][4] It is unknown if CBFG-FM itself was a repeater of CBF-FM.
On July 15, 2015, the CRTC renewed CBFG's license and those of its transmitters until August 31, 2018.[5]
