California Northstate University College of Medicine (CNUCOM) is a private medical school located in Elk Grove, California and one of three colleges of California Northstate University.[1] The school was approved by the WASC in August 2013 and gained preliminary accreditation in June 2015 by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.[2][3] It is one of two for profit medical schools accredited by the LCME, which accredits Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) granting schools.[4] Joseph Silva, MD, currently serves as the Dean of Medicine.[5] CNUCOM enrolled its first class of 60 students in August 2015.[6]

History

California Northstate University (CNU) COM is a new institution established following the College of Pharmacy in 2008.[7] CNUCOM enrolled its first class of 60 students in August 2015,[8] and its second class of 90 students in August 2016.[9] CNUCOM is dedicated to educating, developing, and training physicians to help with the primary care physician shortage in Northern California.[10] CNU has a College of Health Sciences for undergraduates with a combined BS/MD program[11] as well as a pre-med post-Baccalaureate program.[12]

Admissions and academics

The class of 2019 had an average MCAT score of 32.2 and GPA of 3.48.[8] The class of 2020 had average MCAT score of 33 and GPA of 3.5, with 8% under-represented minority students. 86% of students were from California.[9] The 4-year MD program follows a Clinical Presentations curriculum, with training in basic sciences, clinical knowledge, clinical reasoning, ethics and 46 weeks of clerkship rotations during the third year.[13]

California Northstate University College of Medicine is affiliated with Kaiser Permanente of Northern California and Dignity Health hospitals.[14]
