The South Cape Children's Choir is a critically-acclaimed, gold award-winning regional children's choir from the Garden Route in South Africa. |

The Choir was founded in February 1996 by the (now defunct) South Cape Music Academy out of a public demand in the Southern Cape for a regional children's choir. The first parent management committee was chaired by Andries van Schalkwyk. Naomi Koekemoer was the founding conductor. Kalene Roux was the choir's first accompanist. The choir had its debut concert in the Maritime Museum, Mossel Bay, on 8 November 1996, with Gé Korsten as the guest artist. In 1997 Amanda Hattingh was appointed as conductor and Ronelle Kruger as accompanist. The current conductor, Jan-Erik Swart, was appointed at the end of 2006 and the accompanist, Olive Sandilands, in 2007. |

The choir comprises 80 children, selected from all schools in the Garden Route region of the Western Cape who come together to rehearse every Friday, some Saturdays, and at least 3 days every holiday, in George. They are supported by a parent management committee and are national gold-winners of the ATKV ANIMATO Choir Competition (2008/2009). They have performed, amongst others, with the World Youth Choir (2007), Estonian TV Children's Choir (2009), the Ruamjai Finnish Youth Choir (2009), the Halle Children's Choir (2008), the YIP Children's Choir (2008), the St Andrews Cathedral School Choir (2010) and the Texas State Chorale. (2010). They have undertaken concert tours of Europe in 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2007. The choir has recorded six cds and one dvd: Carmina Audite (1998); Rhythm of Life in Rhythm (2000); Viva la Musica (2002); In Dreams (2004); Oceano (cd/dvd)(2007); For the Beauty of the Earth (2009). |

The choir's motto is "Carmina Audite" which means: "Listen to our Songs!" Its goals are to seeks the highest level of artistic achievement, through the rigorous training of aspiring young vocal musicians in the South Cape, fostering the intellectual, moral, social and physical growth of its members. It pursues and shares learning experiences through the unifying medium of choral music, encourages participation of all ethnic, religious, and socio-economic groups, and promotes a sense of community and understanding through the universal language of music. |
