  • The overwhelming part of the range lies in the Styria. Only part of the range in the northwest is in Upper Austria.

The boundary for the region is based on the definition of the Northern Limestone Alps and its subdivision into individual ranges according to the Alpine Club classification of the Eastern Alps (AVE). By this definition the Ennstal Alps are bounded by the line: Windischgarsten -- Dambach -- Hengst Pass -- Laussa -- Enns bis Hieflau -- Erzbach -- Präbichl -- Vordernberger Bach -- River Mur from Leoben to St. Michael -- Liesing/Paltental to confluence with the Enns -- Liezen -- Pyhrn Pass -- Windischgarsten [1].
