Pointless category[edit]

Maybe i dont know much about this topic, but i dont think simply refraining from drugs makes you special enough to deserve a label and to be distinguished from other musical groups. Also, how are we not to know that at least 1 or more of the members of any of these bands does drugs in secret? if we are going to have this category, why not include every single artist and group that has been known to not use drugs, so we WOULD have to include the likes of Ted Nugent and the Jonas Brothers. the straight-edge "movement" is non-existant, its just a term used by a few self-righteous individuals (and their followers) to make themselves feel different, special and/ or more important. delete this category. just my two cents. You know nothing about punk rock, Yonski. Caesar

Obviously you know nothing about punk rock either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.157.74.107 (talk) 13:43, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusions[edit]

Right to get the discussion going on this category 1) someone should delete the List_of_straight_edge_groups now that all bands with valid pages have been added here & 2) should this page be about bands with straight edge members or bands who advocate sxe in their lyrics? As some people seem to disagree on which it should be r.e. the 'List' talk pages. I think it should be the latter as it will just end up with an almost random list because there are lots of bands with 1 or 2 sxe members where it doesn't influence the lyrics, this doesn't make a band a straight edge group even if all members are edge. Perhaps there could be another category for 'Bands with Straight Edge members'? Diabolical 13:10, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think this should be Straight Edge Bands, cos I thought it was going to be organisations for straight edge people. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.205.224.155 (talkcontribs) 11:06, 2 August 2006
Only 2 members of Charles Bronson are straight edge. Even listen to the discocrappy live stuff, the guitarist tells people "not to spill his beer". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.69.253.240 (talkcontribs) 00:54, 19 December 2006
SOA are also not straight edge. Majority of One and Straight Ahead should also be included in this list as straight edge bands. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.38.66.39 (talkcontribs) 21:45, 21 December 2006
If you think a band is not edge feel free to remove them and explain in the edit summary. Diabolical 17:53, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What about Rise Against? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.40.70.52 (talk) 05:45, 2 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]
Matisyahu openly expresses his love for marijuana, hardly straight edge...

Mhh, I'm from Germany but I don't think that Gerhard Gundermann is a Straigt Edge Group...

Gerhard Gundermann (and non hardcore straight edge bands)[edit]

He may as well be included, because he followed a straight edge lifestyle. I think only a person can be straight edge, not a band as there's no straight edge way of playing music. OK, he didn't play hardcore punk, but you don't have to. I've even added a few non hardcore sxe acts that play hip-hop and folk punk as well.

Anti-Flag[edit]

Anti-Flag is stated as being a straight edge band, whilst their songs, lyrics and general image state otherwise. Can someone please remove it? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 117.53.132.117 (talk) 11:55, August 21, 2007 (UTC)

Anti-Flag is Straight Edge at the moment, maybe at one time they weren't, but when they talk and hang out with fans, they refuse to drink or do drugs and claim it is because they are Straight Edge. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.163.246.68 (talk) 04:18, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Many of their songs that talk about alcohol or drugs are supposed to be used satirically. Songs like Drink Drank Punk and the line in One Trillion Dollars both are using the alcohol or drugs as a device to show ignorance, stupidity, or some sort of control. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bliingboii (talkcontribs) 06:59, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

uhm guys, fat mike said in a german interview that if there's a bible group at warped tour, anti-flag, rise against and nofx would throw beer bottles on the bible-readers i think they drink alcohol, but not lie "oh my flying spaghetti monster, i am so drunk" *puke* i hope u know what i mean —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.62.23.246 (talk) 16:41, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nono, Anti-Flag IS straight edge. They have have lots of songs about it. A stanza in "Right On", "Drink Drank Punk" etc, while they still make references to drugs in the Gre(A)t Depression and in Justin's solo songs, most of the time thats referring to diet pills and male enhancement. And the thing the person above me is referring to, doesn't have anything to do with Anti-Flag actually drinking alcohol. Fat Mike is a big drinker, as the rest of NOFX, and i don't know about Rise Against, but anti-flag is straight edge. I went to a concert WAY back in the day when they had just released their first record with #2, when they were about to play "Drink Drank Punk", he said "We're not very big drinkers ourselves, but we have friends that are, this is for them" back then they weren't actually committed to the whole edge thing, but it wasn't like they were stoners/alcoholics etc. They are straight-edge. You can find more proof on the FAQ on their website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.115.121.18 (talk) 11:08, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Anti-Flag and all of Rise Against other than their drummer are Straight Edge Fat Mike was speaking against trying to push religion on people at Warped tour, throwing a beer bottle doesn't make one a drinker. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dogface701 (talkcontribs) 17:26, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
