The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) is the chief law enforcement agency for Cattaraugus County, New York, United States. The current sheriff is Timothy Whitcomb, who succeeded Dennis B. John after John apparently committed suicide on August 18, 2009.[1][2]

Divisions

The CCSO is divided into the following divisions:

  • The Administrative Division consists of the Civil Unit, Pistol Permits, clerical staff, Training Unit, D.A.R.E. Instructors and Deputy Sheriff School Resource Officers.[2]
  • The Patrol Division is the most visible section of the Sheriff's Office.[2] Special assignments in the Patrol Division include:
    • DWI and Traffic Enforcement
    • K-9
    • Marine Unit
    • Court Security
    • Mounted Division
  • The Communications Division is responsible for the operation and management of the County 9-1-1 Center, the county public safety land mobile radio systems, and departmental technology.[2]
  • The Detective Division is responsible for the investigation of major crimes. The Sheriff's Office "Special Response Team" tactical unit and Narcotics Officers are also under the direction of the Detective Division.[2]
  • The Jail Division of the Sheriff's Office runs the county's 150 bed jail facility.[2]
