The catcher appeared in 54 Major League games over three seasons (1921; 1923–24) for the St. Louis Cardinals. Nicknamed "Nig,"[1] he was born in New York, New York. He threw and batted right-handed, was 5 feet 10 inches (1.78 m) tall and weighed 160 pounds (73 kg).

All told, he had 21 big-league hits, with eight doubles and eight runs batted in. He played in the minor leagues for all or part of 14 years (1920–23; 1925–32; 1934–35), and scouted for the Boston Red Sox after his playing career ended.
