Chord Melodic (born Christopher Michael Hall, 27 November 1989), is an English Actor. He is best known for his portrayal as Joe Haslam in the ITV British soap opera Coronation Street. He is also a former professional footballer playing as a striker for Oldham Athletic. He began his career as an actor in 2008 starring in the BBC children's drama series Grange Hill and Drama's such as ITV's British crime drama Blue Murder.
Career
Football career
Hall came through the youth team at Oldham Athletic, playing as a striker.[1] He made his debut for the club in 2003 at the age of 16.[2] After breaking his leg in February 2007, he decided to retire from professional football to concentrate on his acting career, having made 43 appearances and scored one goal for Oldham;[1][3] the club had earlier banned him from appearing in a theatrical performance of the Full Monty.[4] Hall then signed for non-League club Stalybridge Celtic in July 2007.[3] He scored 16 goals in 40 league appearances and was called up for the England C team.[3][2] At the end of the 2007–08 season he left to sign for Bradford Park Avenue.[2] In 2010 he moved to Mossley, for whom he played twelve times before giving up playing in 2011.[3][2] However, he returned to Stalybridge Celtic in 2013, making thirteen appearances and scoring six goals before signing for Harrogate Town for the 2013–14 season.[3]
Acting career
Melodic's television acting debut came in 2008 when he starred in the final series of BBC children's drama Grange Hill where he appeared as ex-pupil and football superstar Dwayne Miller. Subsequent roles later that year included the BBC drama spin-off Spooks: Code 9 and ITV daytime drama serial The Royal Today.
He spent three months portraying music producer Matt Crosby in the teen soap Hollyoaks opposite Emma Rigby. Joining the cast in November 2008, and remaining there until his character's departure in January 2009.
Later that year, he landed a role on the ITV detective drama series Blue Murder, where he played murder suspect Kyle Torrence opposite Holliday Grainger.
He followed that up with numerous roles including C4's drama Shameless in 2011, and ITV's British drama series Scott & Bailey.
More recent projects included a guest appearance on Channel 4's Coming Up (TV series) opposite Debra Stephenson and Jodie Comer.
In 2015 Melodic was cast as regular character Sledge in British crime drama television series Happy Valley opposite Sarah Lancashire. In May 2015, Happy Valley won the BAFTA Award for Best Drama Series.
He then made a guest appearance on British medical soap opera Doctors in 2016 as Police Constable Dave Blaire.
As of 2017 Melodic has been portraying Joe Haslam in the ITV British soap opera Coronation Street.
He is also due to appear in British medical drama television series Holby City in January 2018.[5][6]
