Chris Darby is a Auckland Councillor who is focused on public transport, urban regeneration & environmental issues. He is a progressive independent not affiliated to any political party.

At the 2010 Auckland Council elections, Darby ran for the North Shore ward of Auckland Council for Shore Voice alongside Ann Hartley, finishing 6th.

At the 2013 Auckland Council elections, Darby was elected as a councillor for the North Shore ward (Takapuna-Birkenhead-Glenfield-Milford-Totaravale-Devonport-Birkdale-Beach Haven-Northcote-Castor Bay-Bayview-Sunnynook), polling higher than both incumbents, Ann Hartley and George Wood.[1][2]

In the 2013-16 Auckland Council he was the deputy chair of the Auckland Development Committee and Infrastructure Committee, and is council's Political Urban Design Champion.

He is also a member of; Finance & Performance Committee | Strategy & Policy Committee | Hearings Committee | Unitary Plan Committee | CCO Governance & Monitoring Committee | Parks, Sport & Recreation Committee | Environment Committee | Hauraki Gulf Forum | Treaty Settlements Working Party | Tupuna Maunga Authority | Greenways Leadership Group

Darby was re-elected at the 2016 Auckland elections.[3] The new mayor, Phil Goff, appointed Darby the chairperson of the planning committee.[4]
