The cinereous owl (Strix sartorii), or Mexican barred owl, is an owl which occurs in central Mexico. Some taxonomic authorities, like the International Ornithologists' Union, consider it a distinct species. Others, like the American Ornithological Society, consider it to be conspecific with the barred owl.
