Claudio Maniago
Claudio Maniago (born 8 February 1959, Florence) is an Italian, Roman Catholic bishop. (bishop of Castellaneta and Satafi).
He was born in Florence on 8 February 1959. He entered the major seminary, attending the Florentine theological College and the Almo college of Capranica, followed by the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo.
On 19 April 1984 he was ordained priest by Archbishop Silvano Piovanelli (letter Cardinal). From 1987 to 1994 he was rector of the minor seminary, director of the diocesan center for vocations and member of the diocesan pastoral council and ecclesiastical assistant of the Serra Club. In 1988 he became the Archbishop of Florence. In 1991 he was the director of the diocesan liturgical office and member of the ordained commission.
In 1994 he became a pro-vicar of the metropolitan archdiocese, moderator of the archbishop's curia and honorary canon of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. In 2001 he was appointed Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Florence.[1]
Episcopal Ministry
On 18 July 2003, at just 44, Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop of Florence and bishop of Satafi.[2][3] On 8 September he received episcopal ordination, in the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, by Cardinal Silvano Piovanelli, Archbishop Ennio Antonelli (later Cardinal) and Bishop Gualtiero Bassetti (later archbishop and cardinal). At the time of the episcopal appointment he was the youngest bishop of Italy.[4]
In 2008, the new archbishop of Florence Giuseppe Betori confirmed him as the Vicar General of the Archdiocese.
On 12 July 2014 Pope Francis appointed him bishop of Castellaneta. He began his episcopal ministry in the Apulian church on 14 September 2014.[5]
On 21 May 2015 the Italian Episcopal Conference, convened at the General Assembly, elected him President of the Episcopal Commission for the Liturgy. On 3 October he was also appointed, by the Permanent Bishop's Council of the CEI, president of the Liturgical Action Center.
On 28 October 2016 Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the discipline of the sacraments.
