Clinical & Experimental Allergy was launched in 1971 and has been the official journal of the British Society for Allergy & Clinical Immunology (BSACI) ever since. Published by Wiley-Blackwell, Clinical & Experimental Allergy mainly publishes reports of original research in the field of allergy, along with review articles, editorials and special issues on topics of current interest.
Accepted and peer reviewed articles in Clinical & Experimental Allergy are published online in advance of issues. All of the journal’s content, including accepted articles, free virtual issues and the archive of issues reaching as far back as the first article by Jack Pepys on “‘Clinical immunology’ and the ‘practise of allergy’”, can be found on the journal’s website.
Through the rapid publication of original manuscripts and review articles, Clinical & Experimental Allergy provides essential reading for basic scientists and clinicians researching in this field.
Aims and Scope
Clinical & Experimental Allergy accepts for publication suitable manuscripts dealing with the aetiology, diagnosis and treatment of allergic (and related) diseases. These might include the study of methods of controlling allergic reactions, human and animal models of hypersensitivity and other aspects of basic and applied clinical allergy in its broadest sense including clinical trials. The journal also publishes solicited and unsolicited review articles on subjects of topical interest to experimental and clinical allergists. It does not in general publish papers of a primarily methodological nature. Editorials are by invitation only. The journal does not publish case reports.
Papers are accepted on the understanding that no substantial part has been, or will be, published elsewhere, in whole or in part.
In determining content, the primary considerations are excellence, relevance and novelty. While Clinical & Experimental Allergy reflects the broad scientific and clinical interests of the BSACI membership, the international editorial team, led by Professor Andy Wardlaw, ensures that the journal’s ethos, authorship, content and purpose are those expected of a leading international publication.
Editorial policies
Customary peer-review policies for scientific journals are followed for all research articles. Review articles are usually written at the invitation of the Editor, and are also peer reviewed.
Papers can be submitted online via ScholarOne Manuscripts (formerly known as Manuscript Central).
Current status of the journal
The journal is available by library, personal or member subscription. Generally, BSACI membership includes a subscription to the journal.
Free online access is available within selected institutions in the developing world through the Research4Life initiative with the World Health Organization.
Authors pay no page charges, but have the option of making their articles open access and freely available by paying an author fee.
The journal currently publishes 12 issues per year. The 2011 impact factor of the journal is 5.032, and it is ranked 3rd of 24 titles in the Allergy category of the Journal Citation Reports.
