Colegio Belga Guatemalteco (Dutch: Belgische School Guatemalteek; French: École Belge Guatémaltèque) is a Belgian international School in Guatemala.
This is a bilingual school, there are also lessons of French and Dutch.
History
The origins of the Belgian school begin when Belgian women's of the Holy Family of Helmet, requested authorization to the dictator Jorge Ubico to build an educational work in Guatemala. The School officially opens under the protection of the Holy Angels the October 2, 1933, with permission of the General Jorge Ubico. The school began with a total of 18 students (mostly women's) Belgian or Guatemalans of Belgian descendant.[1]
Congregations
Although the school currently is secular, the school had a history of religious congregations, the Congregation of the Holy Family began with the arrival of the family Van Biervliet from Flanders, Belgium (composed by Pierre Francois, Marie Jeanne and the daughters Rosalie, Melanie and Henriette), who in the founding of the congregation, they give asylum to the poor people and homeless people.[2]
Educational Levels
The Belgian School is organized into five levels according to the age and degree of the boarders.:[3]
- kindergarten (Pre - Primaria) Age 2-5
- Elementary (Primaria) Age 6-12
- Basic (Basicos) Age 13-15
- High School (Diversificado) Age 16-19:
- Peritos y Bachilleratos
- Magisterio
