Cyprus will participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which takes place on 20 November 2016, in Valletta, Malta. The Cypriot broadcaster Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) has selected the song "Dance Floor" to represent them. The song will be performed by George Michaelides. Music and lyrics are written by George Michaelides together with Andreas Anastasiou and the song is produced by Jonas Gladnikoff. Cyprus will make their return to the contest after their absence from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015. Andreas Anastasiou has previously represented Cyprus in 2011 Eurovision Song Contest with song "San Angelos S'agapisa" performed by Christos Mylordos and also written songs in the Moldavian National contest of 2012 and 2014 and also in Finland for 2014 with "My little honey bee" which reached the semi final stage.
Background
Prior to the 2016 Contest, Cyprus had participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest eight times since its debut at the inaugural contest in 2003.[1][2] Cyprus were absent from the 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015 contests.[3] They have never won the contest, with their best results being at the 2004 and 2006, represented by Marios Tofi, and the duo Louis Panagiotou and Christina Christofi respectively, achieving eighth place.[3] Cyprus has hosted the contest once in 2008, at the Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center in Limassol.[4]
Before Junior Eurovision
The Cypriot broadcaster announced on 5 August 2016, that they would be making their return to the contest after a one-year absence. They selected their entry internally.[5]
