Cyrus S. Poonawalla is an Indian businessman, the chairman of Poonawalla Group, which includes Serum Institute of India, the Indian biotech company that manufactures paediatric vaccines.[1] He is not related to Tehseen Poonawalla and Shehzad Poonawalla.[2]
Education and career
As per Forbes March 2018 rankings, Poonawalla's net worth is Rs 73,000 crore and is ranked # 7thrichest person in India and #170th richest person in the world.[3] He did his schooling from The Bishop's School in Pune, and later graduated from Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce, University of Pune, in 1966.
Awards
He was awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution to the field of medicine, by the Government of India in 2005.[4]. He also received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2005 [5]
