Damian, also spelled Damien, Daymian, Дамиан, Damiano, Дамјан, Damião, Дамян etc., is a given name from the Latin Damianus and, in turn, from the Greek Δαμιανος Damianos which was derived from the Greek word δαμαω damao meaning "to tame", which also comes from the Sanskrit word "dam", meaning "to tame".
