Dan Kalb represents District 1 on the Oakland City Council, a position he has held since 2013.[1][2] Kalb has spearheaded[3][4][5] a proposal to strengthen the Oakland Public Ethics Commission to be voted on in the general election of November, 2014.

Previously Kalb was California Policy Director at the Union of Concerned Scientists.[6][7] Before joining UCS in 2003 he worked as director of a Sierra Club chapter and for California Common Cause, Media Alliance and CalPIRG.[8]

In 2004 Kalb ran unsuccessfully to represent District 5 on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. In 2001 he won a vote for a seat on a proposed Municipal Utility District, which itself was defeated.[9]

In 1982 Kalb received an undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley in Conservation of Natural Resources. In 1988 he received a master's degree in Public and Non-Profit Administration from the University of San Francisco.[7]
