A Democrat, Miramant served one term in the Maine House of Representatives (2006-2008) before unsuccessfully challenging Chris Rector for the District 22 State Senate seat. He served on the Selectboard for the town of Camden, Maine from 2000-2003. He was a place holder candidate for the District 44 seat in the House of Representatives in 2004 before winning the seat in 2006.[1]

Dave Miramant was a State representative for the 44th district of Maine as of 2006, and leaving the senate two years later in 2008.[citation needed]

In February 2014, Miramant announced that he would seek to replace the retiring Edward Mazurek for the renamed Senate District 12.[2] He was successful and served in the 123rd Legislature. In 2016, he was re-elected to a second 2-year term beating former U.S. Congressman David F. Emery by 52%-48%.
