Diehl Defence GmbH & Co. KG is a German weapon manufacturer with headquarters in Überlingen. Diehl Defence is a division of Diehl Stiftung which mainly produces missiles and ammunition.

Diehl BGT Defence was founded in 2004 as a result of the merger of Bodenseewerke Gerätetechnik GmbH and Diehl Munitionssysteme GmbH & Co. KG. In February 2017, Diehl BGT Defence and Diehl Defence Holding were merged into Diehl Defence .[2]

In 1960, Bodenseewerke Gerätetechnik became the prime contractor for the European production of the American Sidewinder AIM-9B air-to-air missile.[3]

Based on the experience with the infrared homing Sidewinder, Diehl Defence developed the seeker for the IRIS-T medium range air-to-air missile. The IRIS-T was first fielded in 2005 and has been adopted by 13 countries as of October 2022.[4]
