"Disco Science"
Song

"Disco Science" is the first single released in 1999 by the French singer/songwriter and producer Mirwais Ahmadzai, better known as Mirwais. The song was the lead single from his second album, Production, released by Naive records on April 21, 2000.[1]

Reception

"Disco Science" received critical acclaim from music critics worldwide.[citation needed] Remixes by Giorgio Moroder, Joey Negro, and Thin White Duke completed the release.[2]

Music video

The music video for "Disco Science" was directed by Stephane Sednaoui.[3] It was inspired by the 1970s Nagima Oshima film, In the Realm of Senses. MTV banned the video for its explicit sexual content.[citation needed]

Background

Mirwais composed the song in the late 1990s after observing the dance floors in disco clubs, which he compared to a science experiment because of its reproducibility. A sample from Breeders's "Cannonball" was included later to add a more rock vibe.[4]

In popular culture

"Disco Science" has been used on many commercials and movies including the chase scene from Guy Ritchie's Snatch.[5]
