Donald Andrew Aslett (born July 23, 1935) is an American entrepreneur, author and public speaker who specializes in cleaning and housekeeping products, services, and techniques. Aslett resides in Pocatello, Idaho.
Early life
Aslett was born in Twin Falls, Idaho to Duane Aslett (1909-1983) and Opal Nora Ross (1915-2004); he was the second of five children (one sister, three brothers). His father was involved in building many of the roads in Southern Idaho until they decided to leave that life and choose farming. After his teenage years on the farm Aslett attended Idaho State College (now Idaho State University) from 1954 to 1963 with a 2-year hiatus to serve a church mission for the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Hawaiian Islands.
Background
Varsity Contractors Inc.
While studying at Idaho State College (now Idaho State University) in 1957, Aslett and Arlo Luke formed Varsity Contractors Inc.(now [1]), a janitorial service, to help pay his college tuition.[2] The Pocatello, Idaho-based company is now a full-service janitorial contractor with total revenues of $190 million.[3]
Written Work
Aslett has written over 35 books on cleaning topics, including Clutter's Last Stand and Do I Dust or Vacuum First?: Answers to the 100 Toughest, Most Frequently Asked Questions About Housecleaning.[4] With his eldest daughter Laura Aslett Simons, an interior designer, he co-authored a volume titled Make Your House Do the Housework. He also wrote Is There Life After Housework.
Television Appearances
Aslett has appeared on QVC,[5] The Oprah Winfrey Show, and several other nationally-televised programs. Aslett has also served as a motivational speaker for several business and government-related entities.[6]
Museum of Clean
In 2012 Aslett opened the Museum of Clean in Pocatello, Idaho. The museum features many historical artifacts related to cleanliness and even some interactive displays. [7]
