Douglas Ranch is a proposed 33,800-acre (137 km2) community in Buckeye, Arizona, located 25 miles (40 km) west of Phoenix, Arizona, United States. The project had been anticipated to break ground in 2012.[1][2] However, its current status is unknown, due to a housing crisis that overtook the Phoenix metropolitan area in 2008.[citation needed]
Douglas Ranch plan
Douglas Ranch will be larger than the city of Tempe, Arizona, and will be expected to take 25 to 50 years to complete, housing a population of 250,000 to 300,000 residents. The community is divided into 27 separate planning areas and will include a 300-acre (120 ha) central park, a university, 50 million square feet (4.6 km2) of commercial and office space, 110,000 residential units, 22 golf courses, 150,000 jobs, light rail, and a new freeway.[3]
Project status
The development is partly owned by Jerry Colangelo. The project was approved on May 20, 2003, However, no specific development schedule was established.[4] Douglas Ranch developers are currently monitoring the development activity in Arizona and will continue to prepare Douglas Ranch for development when economic conditions improve and the recession rebounds.[5]
